Ah, the halfway point of the year. Exciting! Panic inducing! So much year left and yet so much has disappeared. I’ve read a lot of books so far and many of them have been excellent. A good number have also been forgettable. Now that we’re a few days into the second half of 2025, here are five books I loved reading in April, May, and June.
What have been some of your favourite books so far this year? I’d love to hear about them!
The Cost of a Hostage
Oh, how I adore the Lane Winslow mysteries. Iona Whishaw has created a heroine I love and every mystery is interesting, entertaining, and suspenseful. And I always learn something about Canadian history! The Cost of a Hostage is the twelfth (!!!) book in the series and was an absolute winner. (Review)
One Golden Summer
Quelle surprise! A Canadian romance reader fell in love with Carley Fortune’s latest book! One Golden Summer is such a perfect summer read and I’m so jealous of everyone who gets to read this for the first time! (Review)
Widows and Orphans
If you love a good small town mystery with a little something different, you need to read the series created by Kate Hilton and Elizabeth Renzetti. It’s so smart and mysterious. And I love that the main character is a journalist! Widows and Orphans was such a good second installment to the series. (Review)
Death at a Highland Wedding
I swear, every time I read the next book in Kelley Armstrong’s Rip Through Time series I say that it’s my new favourite. It happened again with Death at a Highland Wedding. I loved the mystery and the setting and how some of the plot points were (finally) moved along. Such a fun series! (Review)
Ugh! As If!
Who would have guessed that a non-fiction title would be my favourite book of June? Certainly not me! Veronica Litt’s Ugh! As If! was a smart, funny, interesting look at the movie Clueless. I highly recommend it. (Review)
Curious about what I loved in the first quarter of 2025?
I need to try another Carley Fortune book. I didn't like the ending of Every Summer After, and stayed away from her books since. Her newest novel has numerous positive reviews, and I'm tempted.
